Red Dress Day

May 5 @ 3:00 pm - May 6 @ 12:00 am

REDress Day honours the lives of Indigenous women, girls, and relatives who are missing or have been murdered.

The red dresses symbolize both loss and presence — representing those who should still be with us and reminding us of the disproportionate violence faced by Indigenous communities across Canada.

According to Aboriginal Alert, Indigenous women and girls accounted for 62% of missing person alerts involving Indigenous people in 2024, with 816 alerts issued in a single year — and some cases still unresolved.

National and Indigenous‑led reports confirm that this crisis has not declined. The Assembly of First Nations continues to call for urgent action, noting that Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people remain at heightened risk due to systemic violence and trafficking:

The Government of Canada’s 2024–25 Federal Pathway Annual Progress Report also acknowledges that violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people remains a national crisis:

Behind every alert and every statistic is a person who is loved and deeply missed.

These are not statistics — they are our relatives.

We remember them.

We honour them.

And we continue to call for justice, accountability, and lasting change.

Wear red. Remember them. Demand better.
